The Youth Palio
Palio dei Mezzani
The Palio dei Mezzani is the most recent of the events organized by the Associazione Giochi Storici of Cagli: a challenge designed for teenagers aged 14 to 18 years old, who compete in district teams in Renaissance-inspired challenges, halfway between the Paliotto for the little ones and the grand Palio dell'Oca.
Born to respond to the desire for participation of an age group that has already outgrown the Paliotto but is not yet in the full role of the "adults," the event offers the "Mezzani" an appointment all their own: a day to wear the colors of their district and measure themselves in technical and team challenges, in an atmosphere of healthy competition and Renaissance spirit.
The challenges test physical abilities and concentration in equal measure: from precision shooting to relay racing, from strength challenges to coordination games. The youths train in the preceding months with the support of their respective districts, building that identity of belonging that is the soul of the Palio dell'Oca.
The Palio dei Mezzani is also a moment of transition: many of the participants will become player pages of the official Palio in the following years, bringing with them the experience and passion gained in this competition. A fundamental step in the path that binds the new generations to the history of Cagli.
