Cagli in Rinascimento: Palione and Palio dei Mezzani

4th edition of the "Palione" -Palio dell'Oca, held every five years, dedicated to the veterans of the four districts competing in games and challenges in the setting of Piazza Giacomo Matteotti.

Setting up of play areas and themed installations for children by «il Giardino dei Colori».

Ore 19:00

Opening of the Unified Tavern of the four districts with traditional cuisine and live music throughout the evening in Piazza Papa Niccolò IV.

Ore 21:00

8th edition of the "Palio dei Mezzani" -Palio dell'Oca for teenagers aged 14 to 19 from the four districts, in which games and challenges are proposed in Piazza Giacomo Matteotti.

21st edition of the «Paliotto» -A scaled-down Palio dell'Oca for children aged 10 to 14 from the four districts who will face each other in games and challenges in Piazza Giacomo Matteotti.

Opening of the Unified Tavern of the four districts with traditional cuisine and live music throughout the evening in Piazza Papa Niccolò IV.

Following: performance by the Flag Wavers (Sbandieratori) of Gubbio in Piazza Giacomo Matteotti.

Celebration of Holy Mass and blessing of the banners in the Cathedral Basilica (Duomo).

Ore 22:00

4th edition of the Palio dell'Oca organized by the Compagnia Balestrieri dell'Oca of Cagli in Piazza Giacomo Matteotti.

Performance by the Tamburini of the 4 Districts in Piazza Giacomo Matteotti.

Ore 22:00

Performance by the Compagnia Arcieri dell'Oca of Cagli in Piazza Giacomo Matteotti.

Renaissance dinner at the cloister of San Francesco organized by «Associazione Sestiere Castellare».

Opening of the Sant'Agostino tavern -district winner of the previous edition -with traditional cuisine and DJ set throughout the evening.

Saturday, August 8th

The Eve of the Palio

Within the historic center, you can enjoy reenactment settings and battlefields. In the children's area, traditional wooden game activities will be available throughout the day. In the taverns, you can watch performances by itinerant artists.

Ore 17:00

Ceremonial of the Eve in Piazza Matteotti: return of the Palio by the district that won the previous edition.
Following:

Appointment of the Podestà by the Duke
Investiture of the captains
Appointment of the Standard-bearer (Gonfaloniere)
Drawing of the starting order for the four districts for the Palio
Assignment of knights, archers, and crossbowmen for each district
Reading of the proclamation

Ore 19:00

Ceremony at the Cathedral Basilica (Duomo): offering of the oil by the Standard-bearer and Grand Ceremonial Master, blessing of the oil, lighting of the votive lamp, reading of the proclamation, and greeting from the Mayor.

Ore 19:00

Opening of the four taverns in each district with traditional dishes accompanied by live music. Followed by a DJ set throughout the evening.

Ore 22:00

Night procession by torchlight through the streets of the historic center, accompanied by the sound of drummers and clarions.

Ore 23:00

Suggestive light show in Piazza Giacomo Matteotti.

Ore 24:00

Ringing of the bells to announce the day of the Palio.

The Big Day

Sunday, August 9th

40th Edition of the Palio dell'Oca

Ore 16:00

Departure of the Renaissance costume procession through the streets of the historic center heading to the Arena di Sant'Emidio, where the Historical Palio - Palio dell'Oca will take place.

Ore 18:00

Dispute of the 40th Historical Palio -Palio dell'Oca of Cagli at the Arena di Sant'Emidio.

Ore 19:00

Opening of the four taverns in each district with traditional dishes accompanied by live music. Followed by a DJ set throughout the evening.
