The Children's Palio
The Paliotto
The Paliotto is the version of the Palio dell'Oca designed for the youngest: children and teenagers from 10 to 14 years old compete in teams representing the four historic districts of Cagli, in a day of games, healthy competition, and fun in Piazza Matteotti.
For many editions, the Paliotto has accompanied the week of the Palio dell'Oca, offering the new generations a first contact with the values of the event: belonging to one's district, team spirit, and respect for the rules. For many young people in Cagli, it is the starting point of a passion that will accompany them even as adults, among the historical companies and district taverns.
The teams of the four districts compete in a series of timed and point-based challenges, designed to test agility, coordination, and the ability to work together. Suspense is not lacking: the score often hangs in the balance until the last challenge, in front of the crowd that fills the square to support the young athletes of their district.
At the end of the challenges, the district that scores the highest wins the Paliotto and a small award, just as happens for the "adults" in the final dispute at the Arena di Sant'Emidio. A celebration that grows every year along with its protagonists.
